Celina, OH-Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey, Rockford Police Chief Paul May, and Rockford Mayor Amy Joseph held a press conference at the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office with more details of the homicide in Rockford on Thursday morning.
Mercer County Central Dispatch received a call at 10:43 AM on Thursday of a possible shooting at 509 North Street, Rockford. The Rockford Police Department was dispatched. Once on the scene Rockford Police Chief Paul May found Melinda S. Shinn, 26, of that address deceased in the mobile home. It appeared that a firearm was used in the death.
Sheriff’s deputies arrived to provide support and Chief May requested that the Sheriff’s Office be the lead agency in the investigation. Detectives were then sent and a request was made for the crime scene unit from the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification, part of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office. While waiting for the arrival of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Ientification deputies applied for and received a search warrant for the residence.
Sheriff’s Deputies and BCI agents conducted multiple interviews during the day. At approximately 5:00 PM, deputies applied for and received a murder warrant for Daniel C. Martin, age 40, a black male, 5’11” tall, 230 lbs, black hair, and brown eyes.
Martin is believed to be armed. If anyone sees him or knows his whereabouts they are cautioned not to approach him, but to call their local law enforcement agency. Martin has a lengthy criminal history including carrying a handgun without a permit.
No other details are being released at this time.
