Mercer County Ohio Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Explorer Program

The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office Explorer program began in the late 1960’s. The program is affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America. Since the program’s inception we have continued the tradition of recognizing our youth who have a strong interest in all phases of Law Enforcement. We currently have employees that were former Explorers working at our Office in all areas.

The program accepts youth from 14 to 21 years of age and have completed the eighth grade, as well as maintain at least a C- average, be of good moral character, and have no serious arrests or convictions. The program accepts members from all six school districts in Mercer County.

The Explorers are involved in numerous activities including parking cars, assisting with parades, the Mercer County Fair and more. The Explorer program is a year round program including ride-alongs with Deputies and assisting in our 911 dispatch center. Meetings are once a month in the evenings for a meeting and/or training.

Applications are accepted throughout the year. Anyone interested in learning more about the program can follow this link to email an Explorer advisor who will contact you.
