The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting a Citizen’s Academy in September of 2014. The purpose of the academy is to give Mercer County residents the opportunity to see an overview of the Sheriff’s Office, and how it differs from other local law enforcement agencies.
The 2014 Academy will take place from September 2, 2014 - September 25, 2014, and will be held on Tuesday and Thursday nights for a four week period. The class will begin at 6 p.m. and last for 2 hours per session. There will be some additional sessions and extended hours during the program. (See attached proposed class syllabus)
Participants will be provided with instruction that includes classroom time, hands on demonstrations, and tours of the facility. The students will also be given an opportunity to ride along with a patrol deputy and to observe employees in the Jail and Dispatch divisions.
The Academy is open to residents of Mercer County over the age of 21. A background check is required. Class size is limited. Interested persons may obtain an informational packet and application at the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office web page at www.mercercountysheriff.org or they may pick one up in person at the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, 4835 State Route 29, Celina, during normal business hours on weekdays. Completed applications need to be returned to the Sheriff’s Office by July 14, 2014.
After all of the applications have been returned and reviewed the class will be filled. Each of the applicants will receive a letter in the mail indicating whether or not they have been accepted into the 2014 class. The selection of the students for the class should be completed by August 15, 2014 and each of the students should receive their letter shortly thereafter.
If anyone has any questions they may contact the Citizen’s Academy Coordinator, Sergeant Jay Wehrkamp, at (419) 586-7724.
APPLICATIONS MUST BE NOTARIZED AND RETURNED TO THE MERCER COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE BY July 14, 2014
